King James Leads Jersey Sales Again, But A Familiar Foe Is Closing In

As reported on NBA.com, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James once again leads the National Basketball Association’s list of most popular jerseys. This marks the sixth consecutive time James has claimed the No. 1 position on the list and his third such honor as a member of the Cavaliers, but the man whose team got the best of him in the NBA Finals and in MVP voting is closing in.

At Pro Image Sports we are on the front lines seeing what players, teams and styles customers are after.  James’ jersey sales were buoyed up by changing jerseys, going back to the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Stephen Curry was the No. 1 seller among kids jerseys in many of our stores.  There are a few reasons for this: Golden State was the new kid on the block in terms of retail sales nationwide.  Kids like the next big thing, not necessarily the rich history of their parents’ team.  The Warriors were one of the first teams to try out the sleeved jersey that every team eventually wore.  While many teams looked awkward, the Warriors rolled out a cool gray alternate color that was the most popular sleeved jersey by a long shot.  Sleeves allowed for kids to wear jerseys more like a T-shirt to school where allowed.  And finally, kids love Curry because, unlike many NBA stars that are physically larger than life, he’s diminutive in size, making him more relatable.

The Bulls reclaim the top spot for best-selling team merchandise for the first time since the end of the 2011-2012 season.  In our stores, the Bulls are typically the leading seller in the headwear department, especially snapbacks.  Not only do they have a cool logo, but they have a lot of hat styles and color ways that are intended to hook-up with sneakers from a former player of theirs that you may have heard of.  Chicago is followed by the Cavaliers at No. 2, the Warriors at No. 3, the Lakers at No. 4 and the Thunder at No. 5.
